Orpheus Building

12 - 20 York Street, Belfast.

Built in 1932, in red brick with granite and Portland stone detailing. It was a department store with a Ballroom on the top floor.

In 1981/82 the University of Ulster acquired the Orpheus for the Faculty of Art & Design. They added a covered walkway over York Street, linking the Orpheus with the existing Art College.
In March 2012 the University of Ulster submitted a planning application for the redevelopment of their Belfast Campus.

The application included the demolition of the Orpheus building and replacement with a new-build University building.

.
The application was approved in March 2013 and demolition of the Orpheus started in December 2015.
